Self Directed Project

Studying with The Open University (UCA) for a BA (Hons) Photography Degree enables me to explore personal work rooted in critical and theoretical photography practice. 'Folkestone is an Art School' is an interactive flip book using Folkestone in Kent as the source for my first Self Directed Project. Capturing Art in the urban landscape through multiple genres. Whether it is placed there intentionally; through local projects, exhibitions or museums. Or through the public via graffiti, littering or lost items. The book aims to explore how we co-exist and interact, inviting another playful look at what is already there.

The book also aims to reflect on the endless choices we as a viewer are presented with. The experience is driven by personal choice and how one chooses to interact with the images which subtly changes their context and interpretation of. I recorded a number of individuals looking through the book, each one chose a different approach and sequence of pages. The experience became totally individual just as our interpretation of the world around us is.

Below is a video of the first physical draft I made by hand.
